One driver was killed and another was seriously injured early Tuesday in a head-on crash on State Road 434 in Oviedo, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal two-vehicle wreck happened around 5:05 a.m. on S.R. 434 near Hammock Lane, east of State Road 417.
All lanes of S.R. 434 are blocked in the area
According to the FHP, a 2022 Nissan Altima was traveling east on S.R. 434 approaching Hammock Lane when the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, causing the car to travel into the westbound lane and in the direct path of a 2018 Jeep Compass.
The front of the Nissan struck the front of the Jeep, causing the Jeep to become fully engulfed in flames, the FHP said.
The woman who was driving the Nissan, a 36-year-old Longwood woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.
The 34-year-old Orlando man driving the Jeep, whom troopers removed from his vehicle before it caught fire, was taken to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital with serious injuries, the FHP said.
This crash remains under investigation.
