UPDATE: 26-year-old Pensacola man dies in head-on collision in Escambia County

A 26-year-old Pensacola man is dead after a head-on collision in Escambia County on Friday.

Troopers say the crash occurred on Lillian Highway near Bauer Road around 11 a.m. when a red Honda SUV, traveling westbound, unexpectedly swerved into the eastbound lane, colliding with a gray Kia.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. The 26-year-old man was transported to Baptist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:08 p.m., according to FHP.

The driver of the Kia, 34-year-old Elberta man sustained injuries but declined transport to the hospital.

The collision resulted in significant front-end damage to both vehicles.

US -98 was partially closed for several hours as troopers conducted a traffic homicide investigation and crews worked to clear the scene.
