A truck driver turned himself in to the police on Friday after authorities said he severely beat another truck driver in a May dispute at a warehouse in Medley.
According to Medley police, the attack happened at around 12:30 p.m. on May 15 at UStone Cement Products, located at 9870 NW 117th Way.
Police said truck driver VNA, who works for another company, became upset that the victim, a driver for UStone, “left little room in the loading area” for him to park and the two began arguing with one another from their trucks.
An arrest report states that CCTV footage shows the victim getting out of his truck, “but (he) takes no more steps closer as though he created an invisible barrier that he was not willing to cross,” stating that “a prudent and reasonable person would interpret (his) inaction as nonthreatening.”
Authorities said NA, 53, of Miami Gardens, got out of his truck and had to “to jump over or traverse large bags of sand on pallets that were placed on the ground” and the two got in each other’s faces.
Police said NA “held a closed-folding knife in his left hand” and said to the victim, in Spanish, “te la voy a meter,” loosely translating to, “I’m going to stick it in you.”
The report states NA used the knife “like a pair of brass knuckles” as he began punching the victim.
“As a result of the punch, the victim fell backward, unable to break his fall, striking the back of his head on the ground, rebounding up and striking the ground again,” the report states. “Subsequently, the victim sustained a large gash that began bleeding profusely. The victim received several staples to mend his wound.”
Authorities said the victim suffered a concussion and other medical complications, limiting his ability to work.
NA, after turning himself in at the Medley Police Department, is now facing charges of aggravated battery with a weapon causing bodily harm and aggravated assault with a weapon.
A Miami-Dade judge ordered him held without bond and he remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Monday.
