Two teenagers are accused of attacking a 15-year-old girl at Coastland Mall in Naples, demanding her necklace at gunpoint and assaulting her before fleeing to Fleischmann Park, where police apprehended them.
KR, a Naples resident, expressed her shock at the incident.
“I was just shocked because, like, I bring my kids here all the time, I shop at the mall. And just to hear about, like, these kids are so young, too,” R said. “And for them to be doing that to a young girl and like, with them having guns, to me, that’s even crazier, because how are these two, like what you said, like 16 years old?”
Naples police identified the suspects as 16-year-old JP and 15-year-old AT. The teens initially approached the victim about someone they thought she knew before demanding her necklace at gunpoint.
Perez allegedly ripped off the necklace, shoved the girl down, left, and then returned to slam her again. Both suspects punched and kicked her, stealing her shoes in the process.
R emphasized the importance of parental awareness, saying, “And me personally, too, because I have two boys and I just don’t want them to get involved in stuff like that. And that’s why I’m always with my kids. I’m always, like, asking them, like, ‘Hey, how’s school?’ You know, and not just asking them like, ‘Hey, how’s school?’ Not like, what’s what? What is interesting? Like, what got your eye today or what caught your eye or, you know, stuff like that.”
Officers reported that the suspects fled the scene, cutting through Fleischmann Park’s baseball field and even pointing a gun at a passing driver.
“So I think that parents definitely need to be aware of their kids and communicate. I think communication is key to that relationship with your child, you know, and just being aware, especially and being aware of their friends,” R said.
Both suspects now face several felony charges, including armed robbery and battery.
