Crews respond to Dunedin house fire caused by golf cart's lithium batteries

A Dunedin home suffered roughly $30,000 worth of damage after a golf cart with lithium batteries caught fire.

Dunedin Fire Rescue and Clearwater Fire & Rescue crews responded to a reported fire at around 2:43 a.m. Monday in the area of Dexter Drive.

When they arrived, investigators discovered a golf cart completely on fire outside the home, causing flames to spread onto the outside the property.

Firefighters immediately began putting out the fire to prevent it from spreading inside the home. It was brought under control within 10 minutes.

Crews said one resident was taken to a local hospital for possible smoke inhalation. No other person or firefighters were injured.

Officials believe the fire was directly caused by the golf cart’s lithium batteries.
