Vernon man charged with aggravated abuse towards a 5-year-old child

A Vernon man is facing aggravated child abuse charges for cruelty towards a 5-year-old.

According to a news release, 38-year-old AWW was arrested Thursday following an investigation conducted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 24, and the extent of the child’s injuries was confirmed by X-ray findings.

W was arrested during a traffic stop in Washington County on an outstanding warrant out of Bay County.

While W was in custody at the Washington County Jail, he had a discussion with the child’s mother where he took full responsibility for the incident. Officials said W stated that he “grabbed the child” and “jerked” her shirt.

W is currently in custody in Bay County Jail and will be extradited to Washington County to face his charges there.
