An Alachua County family is mourning the loss of a part of their property, which has been in their family for decades. Their shop caught on fire early this morning.
“I woke up to what sounded literally like a war zone. It sounded like bombs going off,” shared RH, who lost personal items in the fire.
Their shop is now completely destroyed. The Alachua County Fire Rescue fire chief says it all started when a 2021 Ford F350 caught on fire.
“There ain’t nothing you can do besides look at it. Terrible loss,” said OH, who built the shop decades ago.
H built this shop more than four decades ago, but all that remains are puddles of water, smoke, and debris.
“I saw everything that my father-in-law has worked really really hard for over the years in flames,” RH shared. “I know he may not seem as emotional about it, but to know that he’s worked so hard and he just retired three years ago, and to lose everything that he’s worked hard for, aside from his home, thank God, is really hard.”
But this isn’t the first time; OH says he had a similar truck catch fire.
“To have two vehicles go up in flames the same exact way that are the same year, make, and model is insane,” said RH.
A fire started from faulty electrical work on OH’s first 2021 Ford F350, and he says he’s shocked it happened again because nothing seemed wrong with this truck.
“At first, I was in complete shock, and then I kind of sat on it for a minute, and I felt very angry and frustrated,” RH shared. “You know, you hear of recalls all the time, and I felt like personally when Ford handled this the first time around, they kind of just gave him the new truck to keep the situation quiet and appease him.”
They lost three boats, a motorhome, tractors, a forklift, shop equipment, and more. It’s estimated this fire caused up to $1.5 million in damages.
“It’s going to be between me, the insurance company, and Ford,” said OH.
The H hope Ford pays for the damage, and are thankful no one was hurt.
