Man arrested after crashing into Marion County deputy’s patrol car with a child in his vehicle

A 24-year-old man faces several charges after he repeatedly crashed into a Marion County deputy’s patrol car while driving with a child, a gun and drugs in his vehicle, according to an arrest affidavit.

According to an arrest affidavit, deputies were patrolling the area of Silver Pass and Fairway Circle in Ocala around 4 p.m. on June 27 when they saw a silver Kia exit a parking lot.

Deputies said they initiated a traffic stop on the car after they noticed a “decorative ring around the license plate that concealed the top of the plate completely.”

According to the affidavit, the driver – later identified as JS – erratically drove into a nearby apartment complex and pulled into a parking spot.

Deputies said S then put the vehicle into reverse and rammed the Kia into the patrol vehicle while they gave him verbal commands to exit the car.

S then returned to the parking spot and reversed into the patrol vehicle again.

According to the affidavit, S was able to get his vehicle out of the parking spot and tried to ram the deputy.

S then struck the patrol vehicle and another vehicle, deputies said.

Deputies said they “took cover behind the parked vehicle and continued giving commands to S,” but his vehicle’s tires lost traction and started to spin after pushing the parked vehicle.

According to the affidavit, S again put the vehicle into reverse and drove to the end of the parking lot before driving through a plastic fence and heading south on Silver Pass.

S then started speeding east on Silver Road before turning south on Emerald Road where he continued to drive in a reckless manner, records show.

Deputies said S then sped through an intersection causing the car to go airborne and almost lose control.

According to the affidavit, deputies were able to conduct a PIT maneuver and S pulled into the backyard of a home on Southeast 88th Street, but the chase didn’t end there.

Deputies said S then ran away to nearby woods, ignoring verbal commands to stop. He was finally taken into custody after running across Spring Lake Way and jumping a fence.

According to the affidavit, deputies discovered there was a child in the vehicle.

Deputies said they also discovered a firearm and a “green leafy substance” which later tested positive for marijuana, digital scales and sandwich bags commonly used for drug sales.

S faces charges of child endangerment, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, driving with a suspended license and resisting an officer without violence.

Deputies said that they also learned at the time of his arrest, S was on probation for fleeing and eluding through March, 20, 2027.
