2 brothers killed after train strikes vehicle at Volusia County railroad crossing, deputies say

Two brothers died after being struck by a train while traveling across a railroad on Wednesday night in Pierson, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said that a 32-year-old driver and a 20-year-old passenger were traveling eastbound in a four-door Chevrolet on W. Washington Avenue from County Road 3.

Investigators determined that the vehicle approached the railroad and drove around the arm bars while a train was approaching.

Both arm bars and the lights were active and working, deputies said.

As they attempted to cross, the train struck the vehicle. Both men were pronounced dead on the scene.

“The Volusia Sheriff’s Office sends our condolences to the family following this tragedy,” the sheriff’s office said in a post.
