Three-vehicle crash in Niceville leaves two seriously injured

A three-vehicle crash on State Road 20 resulted in serious injuries for two people involved on Thursday morning.

Troopers say the incident occurred around 8:35 a.m. at Bay Drive when an SUV driven by a 63-year-old Niceville man failed to stop in time, colliding with another SUV stopped at the intersection.

The second SUV, driven by a 73-year-old Niceville man, was propelled forward into the westbound lanes, striking a pickup truck driven by a 58-year-old DeFuniak Springs man, according to FHP.

The 73-year-old man sustained serious injuries, as well as a passenger in the 63-year-old man’s SUV.

The driver of the pickup truck and the driver of the first SUV reported minor injuries.

The 63-year-old man continued eastbound in his SUV until it was forced off the road by an on-duty Okaloosa County deputy sheriff, according to FHP. He stated he was unable to stop his vehicle after the crash.

The 73-year-old man’s SUV came to rest facing east against the pickup truck in the left turn lane.
