A 61-year-old McDavid man is dead after being hit while riding a lawnmower in Escambia County on Friday night, according to FHP.

Troopers say the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the man was operating a riding lawn mower in the right northbound travel lane of US-29, near East Bogia Road, when he was struck from behind by a Honda sedan.

The sedan, driven by an 18-year-old McKenzie woman, was traveling in the same lane and did not see the lawn mower in time to brake and avoid the collision.

Troopers say the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the sedan was not injured in the crash.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

No further details have been released.
