Law enforcement shoot, kill man armed with knife after two people stabbed in Daytona Beach

A man is dead after being shot by law enforcement in Daytona Beach Saturday night.

It happened at a home along Derbyshire Road, near LPGA Boulevard, around 9:30 p.m.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said the man stabbed a 16-year-old and a 39-year-old. When law enforcement entered the home, the man reportedly charged out of a bedroom with a knife raised above his head. Deputies and officers opened fire, killing the man at the scene.

No members of law enforcement were injured. The two people stabbed were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Daytona Beach Police Department, Ormond Beach Police Department and Holly Hill Police Department responded to the incident.

Three Daytona Beach police officers discharged their firearms during the incident and have been placed on administrative leave. The Volusia deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the officer-involved shooting portion of this incident.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood is expected to provide an update on this incident tomorrow.
