A Clermont man who was arrested for allegedly punching his brother-in-law had to be hospitalized after falling through a glass door.
A deputy enroute to a disturbance, later found to involve 31-year-old NR, was told by dispatchers that they heard shuffling and cursing in the background of the call at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. There was also a man covered in blood after cutting himself.
Upon arrival, the deputy met R’s brother-in-law who stated R punched him in the face. R then came out of the house covered in blood. The deputy saw a small laceration on his left eyebrow and a large laceration on his right shoulder, the report said.
The laceration was down to the muscle tissue and was hanging open. He also had several superficial cuts on both arms and a large bump on the back of his head. Lake County EMS was contacted and responded to render aid, the report said.
The deputy spoke with the brother-in-law again, and he advised that he and his family were at a party earlier that evening. R got belligerently intoxicated and started creating a spectacle of himself. He was taken home and behaved throughout the car ride, the report said.
Once home, the brother-in-law tried to get R to go to bed. He became belligerent again while standing outside in the driveway. He then punched his brother-in-law in the face, causing a small cut to the left side of his upper lip, the report said.
R’s mother tried to get him to come inside, but while doing so, he pulled away from her. He lost his balance and fell through the glass door to the laundry room, causing his injuries. After this, law enforcement was contacted, and the parties separated, the report said.
Due to the extensive injuries from falling through glass, R was taken by Lake EMS to South Lake Hospital for further medical evaluation. He agreed to talk while there and advised that he became upset while at the party. He continued to be upset once they got home because his brother-in-law would not leave him alone, the report said.
R just wanted to go to bed, and when his mother tried to take him inside, he fell through the glass. He went on to say that at no point was there a physical altercation, and he did not hit his brother-in-law. However, two other parties gave a statement consistent with that of his brother-in-law, the report said.
R was arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic) and transported to Lake County Jail. The Ohio native was released on his own recognizance and is responsible for appearing in court on July 23.
