Landscaper dies after being electrocuted in Oakland Park

Landscaper dies after being electrocuted in Oakland Park

A landscaper was killed in Oakland Park on Monday after he was electrocuted, his employer said.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of an electrocution in the 1700 block of Northeast 39th Street.

Deputies said the landscaper was about 14 feet high in a palm tree as he was trimming the fronds when he was electrocuted.

The employee was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was called to the scene and said no foul was suspected.

The man was identified by his father as PMR, who was in his 30s.

His father told NBC6 that they are both from Guatemala and that his son has been in the landscaping business for three years.

NBC6 also spoke with R’s employer, VM from V Maintenance Landscaping Professional, who said this was the first time this has happened to them.

Speaking in Spanish, M said the employee was cutting a tree, and his tool hit a power line, which caused him to get electrocuted.

M said he’s worried about R’s family and how they are going to resolve the unfortunate situation.

Video at the scene captured several deputies’ cruisers, the medical examiner’s vehicle and crews with Florida Power & Light.

An investigation into the fatal electrocution is underway.
