Escambia County elementary principal arrested for DUI following head-on crash

Escambia County elementary principal arrested for DUI following head-on crash

A principal with the Escambia County school district was arrested for DUI Thursday night following a head-on collision.

A R, 53, of Pensacola, is charged with DUI damage to property. She was also cited for driving on the wrong side of the road. She’s being held in Escambia County Jail on $1,000 bond.

R is the principal of Hellen Caro Elementary School. Escambia County Public Schools provided WEAR News this statement:

Escambia County Public Schools is aware of the arrest of one of our employees. We are deeply troubled by these allegations and are cooperating fully with local law enforcement. Our commitment to the safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority. The district takes these matters with the utmost seriousness, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow our employee discipline protocols.

The three-vehicle crash happened around 8 p.m. on E Olive Road at Kipling Street.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol arrest report, troopers arrived on scene to find two vehicles with heavy front-end damage, as well as a third vehicle with damage to its left side.

The report states FHP determined that R was traveling east on E Olive Road in a Tucson when she failed to maintain a proper lane and collided head-on with a Sonata.

According to the report, R told troopers she left Vallarta’s Mexican Restaurant prior to the crash, where she had 3-4 margaritas.

The report states R’s eyes were red, her face was flushed and she had slurred speech. She then reportedly showed signs of impairment during the field sobriety tests.

According to the report, Roby blew a 0.1 during the breathalyzer test. The legal limit for Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) in Florida while driving is 0.08.

R’s husband Sean Roby remains jailed in Escambia County for his juvenile video voyeurism arrest last year. He’s being held on $535,000 bond.

Sean R had been serving as Assistant Principal at Pensacola High School at the time of his arrest.

Court records show AR filed last October to dissolve her marriage to S R. That case is still open and active.
