South Fort Myers woman accused of DUI after hitting deputy’s car, refusing sobriety test

South Fort Myers woman accused of DUI after hitting deputy’s car, refusing sobriety test

A south Fort Myers woman was arrested Sunday night after hitting a deputy’s patrol car while driving under the influence.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a hit-and-run crash at Daniels Parkway and Six Mile Cypress Parkway around 10 p.m.

The responding deputy learned that a silver Mercury Grand Marquis had struck a stationary patrol vehicle that was conducting a traffic stop. After the collision, the Mercury continued traveling eastbound on Daniels Parkway.

Using the vehicle’s license plate information, Lee County police traced the registered owner’s address. When deputies arrived at the residence, they observed the Mercury pulling into the community and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as 65-year-old JB, who police say had watery eyes and slurred speech.

Deputies also reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol coming from her vehicle, and as B stepped out to speak with officers, a small bottle of alcohol fell out of her car.

Minor damage to B’s passenger-side mirror was observed by police.

After failing field sobriety tests, B was arrested for driving under the influence.

Following medical clearance at Gulf Coast Medical Center, B was transported to the Lee County Jail.
