Boyfriend faces charges after girlfriend dies in high-speed Vero Beach crash

A high-speed crash in Vero Beach claimed the life of a woman, leading to the arrest of her romantic partner.

The Vero Beach Police Department said that on Sunday, March 30, officers responded to a car accident at 9:46 p.m. in the 3700 block of 43rd Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers reported finding a severely damaged car that had collided with a tree.

The car, identified as belonging to CA, was resting against the tree, with significant damage to the passenger side, per VBPD.

Officials said that C was found unresponsive in the front passenger seat, secured by her seatbelt.

According to VBPD, emergency responders transported her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Traffic homicide investigators were called to the scene to collect evidence, which indicated that C’s vehicle was traveling at a high speed before losing control, sliding off the road, and crashing into a utility pole and a tree.

As the investigation progressed, authorities sought to determine who was behind the wheel that night.

VBPD said that using community assistance, along with cell phone and video evidence, they identified a suspect—M A. S Jr., C’s romantic partner.

DNA evidence later confirmed that Slaughter’s DNA was found on the steering wheel airbag, which deployed during the crash, per the report.

On Wednesday, S was arrested by Vero Beach police and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and faces charges including:

  • Vehicular Homicide
  • Leaving the scene of an accident involving death
  • Driving with a suspended license causing death

S is currently held at the Indian River County Jail on a bond of $1,750,000.
