On the morning of July 26, the Marine Emergency Response Team responded to a boat on fire in Turtle Bay.
Charlotte County Marine 1 arrived and found a recreational fishing boat fully engulfed in flames. With the help of the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District, the fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes.
There were two people onboard the boat heading towards Turtle Bay when it caught fire. Both occupants left the boat and got into the water, where they were helped by a Good Samaritan.
The Boca Grande Fire Department transported one person to their station for a minor burn injury.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office’s Marine Unit secured the area, identified the vessel’s owner, and worked with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which is conducting the investigation.
