Two seriously injured in I-75 crash

Two seriously injured in I-75 crash

Two people were seriously injured Monday afternoon when their van overturned on I-75 in Sarasota, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Investigators say a van towing a trailer driven by a 48-year-old Bradenton man was heading south on I-75, just north of Bee Ridge Road just before 3 p.m.

The van swerved, which caused the trailer to begin to sway, troopers said.

As the driver tried to regain control, the van left the roadway and overturned on the right shoulder.

The driver and passenger, a 31-year-old woman from Bradenton, were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash backed up traffic more than six miles, crating major delays during the afternoon rush hour.

The crash is still under investigation, the FHP said.
