A 25-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly beating his ex-girlfriend of nearly seven years so severely that she suffered a brain bleed, Miami police confirmed in an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News on Wednesday.
Authorities said BLM Jr. was arrested Monday following the early morning attack at an apartment near Coconut Grove that left the victim hospitalized in intensive care with a subarachnoid hemorrhage, also known as a brain bleed.
Officers said they responded to HCA Florida Mercy Hospital just before 6 a.m. Monday after the victim arrived via Uber with her roommate.
The victim told investigators that M had called her repeatedly around 1:30 a.m. as she arrived home with a male friend.
According to the report, M forced his way into the apartment twice during the incident.
During the second entry, he allegedly punched the victim in the face, grabbed her by the hair and repeatedly slammed her head against the concrete floor, the report stated.
The victim’s roommate told police that she witnessed M drag the first victim by her hair while continuing to beat her.
The roommate said when she attempted to call police, M brandished a “big grey and black firearm” and pointed it at her, saying “I’ll slap you, I’ll give this to you both,” according to the report.
Police said M allegedly struck the victim in the head with the gun before dragging her outside and slamming her head against concrete again.
They said the victim sustained multiple facial injuries including bruises, a cut on her lip, and a laceration above her left eyebrow, in addition to the brain bleed. She remained hospitalized in the ICU pending further medical tests, according to investigators.
Detectives said M was apprehended by MPD’s domestic violence apprehension team Monday evening.
During questioning, he admitted to going to the victim’s residence and acknowledged striking her, though he denied using any weapons, according to the report.
Police noted M’s right hand was swollen during the interview, and he resisted being handcuffed for transport.
The motive for the attack remains unclear at this time.
Jail records show M is being held on two counts each of armed burglary with assault or battery, tampering with a witness, and one count each of criminal mischief and resisting an officer without violence.
As of Wednesday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
