A 16-year-old girl from Branford was killed Saturday evening when the SUV she was riding in with three other teens flipped in a hay field, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash was reported just before 5:30 p.m. in the area of 79th Road and 274th Street in Suwannee County.

According to the crash report, three 16-year-old girls and a 15-year-old girl — all from Branford — were headed east through a hay field after heavy rainfall when their SUV spun and flipped, eventually landing on its right side.

None of the teens was wearing a seat belt, according to the report.

One passenger died, the driver suffered minor injuries and the other two passengers were not hurt, FHP said.

Students in Suwannee County began the school year this past Monday.
