17-year-old injured by stray bullet in Escambia County after nearby argument turns violent

A 17-year-old was sent to the hospital Sunday morning after being hit by a stray bullet in Escambia County.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s office said the incident occurred around 9 a.m. when the 17-year-old was walking in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Market Street Oakwood Terrace Apartment Complex when they overheard an argument between two individuals outside of the concrete wall surrounding the apartment complex.

The victim told deputies they heard 2 or 3 gunshots and then ran away. The victim ran to the Lucky 7 gas station, where they realized they had been shot.

The victim’s mother took the victim to the hospital, where they were treated for a gunshot wound to the hand.

The victim is expected to be ok.

Crime scene units and deputies responded to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
