A New Port Richey man was hospitalized after a woman poured acid on him Thursday, police said.
According to the New Port Richey Police Department, officers were called to a home on Slippery Rock Road for a “domestic incident” at 5:01 p.m.
“It does look like we have been out there numerous times for verbal domestic,” Detective David Crowell said. “It does not appear that any arrest was made. However, it does appear to be domestic issues at that residence.”
When they got to the home, they found a man who was trapped in a bedroom while suffering from severe chemical burns over most of his body. The victim screamed for help as a deputy removed wood and metal to get into the room.
The victim was flown to Tampa General Hospital to get life-saving surgery.
Investigators said CH, 50, told deputies she poured sulfuric acid and chemicals on her husband to hurt him and that she tried to kill him several times.
The woman then barricaded the bedroom door and called 911, according to police.
Investigators did not reveal a motive, but court records reveal the victim filed for divorce this past March. The couple was scheduled for a divorce hearing a day after the incident.
“Evidence gathered during the investigation indicates the act was premeditated,” a police release stated.
The 50-year-old suspect was arrested on attempted first-degree murder and aggravated Battery resulting in serious bodily injury.
