A small plane crashed near Gulf Shores on Sunday afternoon, according to the Gulf Shores Police Department.

The incident took place around 2 p.m. between Coastal Alabama Community College and the Gulf Shores Tourism Center, just a few hundred feet from the end of the runway at the Gulf Shores Airport, but there is no information yet on the conditions of the passengers.

The Gulf Shores Police Department announced the incident on Facebook, explaining the increased police activity in the area.

Despite the crash, traffic on Highway 59 remains unaffected and is flowing normally.
