A 74-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman from Jacksonville died Friday afternoon after the car they were driving in crashed into multiple traffic sign poles, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP said a 2025 Nissan Versa was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near mile marker 352 around 12:30 p.m. when the driver failed to maintain control of his vehicle, causing the Versa to run off the roadway to the right shoulder, where the right side sideswiped a standing traffic sign pole.
The vehicle continued traveling on the shoulder, and the front of the vehicle struck another standing traffic sign pole head-on, FHP said.
Both occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
