A 49-year-old woman died Sunday after her SUV vaulted into a Boca Raton canal, while her passenger escaped with minor injuries.
Deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) say that for unknown reasons, at around 1:30 a.m., the unidentified victim drove off northbound Sandalfoot Blvd., rotating clockwise as it exited the roadway.
According to the crash report, her Kia Sorento launched into and on top of a metal guardrail and rolled into a canal on the east side of State Road 7.
Her passenger, a 50-year-old man, was reportedly able to free himself from the sinking car. Soon after, Fire Rescue arrived and removed the driver.
She was transported to Boca Raton Regional Hospital, where deputies say she succumbed to her injuries. The passenger was also treated for minor injuries.
