1 dead after shooting at Tampa sports bar

The Tampa Police Department said one man is dead, another is injured and a third is in custody after a shooting at a Ybor City sports bar.

A preliminary investigation revealed two groups got into an altercation outside the business on E 7th Ave at around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday. A 22-year-old was reportedly removed from the bar for disorderly conduct and later returned with a gun.

While approaching the groups outside, he began arguing with one of the men and then started shooting. A 30-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet identified the suspect or victim.

TPD said there were already officers across the street when the argument started escalating, and they were approaching when the shots were fired. They were able to render aid and take the suspect into custody quickly.

“Split-second decisions can have lifelong consequences, and in this case, a disagreement ended with the tragic loss of life in our community,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said. “This shooting happened with officers in plain view. This reckless behavior is not acceptable within our community.”
