Three people were killed in a crash that involved at least eight vehicles and forced the hourslong closure of northbound Interstate 95 early Sunday in Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 3:50 a.m. in the northbound lanes just south of Wickham Road, troopers said in a statement.

According to a crash report, a 2020 Toyota Corolla was traveling south in the northbound inside lane of I-95 south of North Wickham Road around mile marker 190.

At the same time, a 2014 Chevrolet Impala was traveling north on I- 95, south of North Wickham Road in the inside lane.

Troopers said as the Corolla was “traveling the wrong way,” the front of the vehicle struck the front of the Impala.

After the initial collision, a 2007 Hyundai Tiburon that was traveling north on I-95 in the inside lane, struck the Corolla and the Impala, according to the report. That collision caused the Impala to run off of the road and and collide with the guardrail. The Corolla then rotated and became disabled in the northbound outside lane of I-95.

Troopers said a 2015 Honda CR-V traveling north on I-95 in the outside lane then struck the Corolla which caused the CR-V to run off the roadway right and onto the outside shoulder.

According to the report, a fifth vehicle – a 2025 Toyota Corolla – was traveling north on I-95 in the outside lane and struck the 2020 Corolla.

Next, troopers said a Volvo XC60 that was traveling north on I-95 in the center lane struck the left rear of the 2025 Corolla.

At that point, a 2026 Honda Civic that was traveling north on I-95 in the center lane collided with the Tiburon.

An eighth vehicle – a 2017 Ford Escape – was traveling north on I-95 in the outside lane and struck the right front of the Volvo, troopers said.

The driver of the 2020 Corolla, identified as a 34-year-old Cocoa woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition, the driver and passenger in the Impala – identified as Winston Willis, a 34-year-old Holly Hill man, and a 46-year-old Holly Hill woman – were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

A passenger in the Tiburon, identified as a 22-year-old Fort Lauderdale man was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Also transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries was the driver of the CR-V – identified as a 63-year-old Palm Bay man.
