Lithium Ion batteries possible cause of Spring Hill house fire

Lithium Ion batteries possible cause of Spring Hill house fire

The roof of a Spring Hill home collapsed after a fire that started in the garage spread through the attic, the Hernando County Fire Rescue announced.

HCFR responded to a house fire overnight in the 5000 block of Florentine Court after reports of a fire.

HCFR arrived at the home and found a heavy fire coming from the garage.

Crews worked to control the fire, but the fire rapidly spread throughout the attic, causing the roof to collapse, HCFR said.

Firefighters got the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

The sole occupant of the home was able to safely escape before crews arrived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but HCFR said preliminary indications suggest Lithium-Ion batteries as a potential cause.
