Two people have died following a crash in Punta Gorda involving a sedan and SUV.
The crash occurred Wednesday morning three miles south of Bermont Road. At 7:07 a.m., Charlotte County Public Safety crews were dispatched to State Road 31 and Bermont Rd. for a head-on collision.
CCPS said that an off-duty firefighters was first on scene and immediately stopped to help until responding crews arrived. Engine 9 arrived to find two vehicles with significant front-end damage.
SR-31 south of Bermont Road is currently closed due to the crash. The intersection at SR 31 and Bermont is still open in other directions.The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said that road closures will continue for the next few hours and to seek an alternate route.
The details of the crash are still being investigated.
