A blown tire is being blamed for a huge backup on I-75 Wednesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The accident near Toledo Blade Road in Sarasota County snarled traffic and closed down all southbound lanes for several hours.
Investigators said a truck pulling a trailer was heading southbound in the center lane at about 10:25 a.m.
The truck experienced a ”catastrophic failure” of its right rear tire, forcing the truck into the left lane where a semi trailer was driving.
The two trucks collided, troopers said. The truck overturned, blocking the inside and center lanes of traffic; the semi managed to stop on the left shoulder.
The driver of the truck suffered only minor injuries; the semi driver was not hurt.
The investigation is continuing, the FHP said in a news release.
