1 injured after impact with SFRTA train in Miami, authorities say

A person was injured on Saturday in Miami after an impact with a train just east of Northwest First Avenue and 14 Street.

Officer Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department, identified the person injured as a pedestrian.

“The circumstances surrounding what led up to the crash remains under investigation,” Delva wrote in a statement.

Fire rescue personnel took a cyclist who was critically injured to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, according to Lt. Pete Sanchez, a spokesman for Miami Fire Rescue.

As the situation unfolded, Sanchez first reported that a Brightline train was involved and later issued a correction to say it was a South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, or SFRTA, train on the East Coast Railway Property.

A spokesperson for the Miami Police Department on X asked drivers to avoid the intersection in both directions “due to a traffic crash investigation.”
