One woman is dead and two others are seriously hurt after a crash involving two passenger vehicles and two semi-trucks.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened Tuesday evening just before 9 p.m. at the busy I-95/I-4 interchange near mile marker 260 on the northbound exit ramp.
According to investigators, a 20-year-old man driving a 2001 Ford Mustang was traveling in the outside lane on the ramp when it attempted to change lanes toward a 2012 Dodge Charger already in the inside lane.
The Mustang’s left side hit the right side of the Charger, causing both vehicles to veer westward across the ramp. As a result, a 48-year-old woman driving the Charger collided with a guardrail, FHP says.
During this time, troopers say a 2024 International semitruck traveling westbound on the I-4 exit ramp toward northbound I-95 was unable to avoid the Mustang and hit its right rear side. That impact pushed the truck into a guardrail.
FHP says a second semitruck, a 2014 Freightliner, then had to swerve to try to avoid the initial crash but ultimately hit the Mustang as well.
Emergency crews responded, and the 20-year-old man driving the Mustang and the 48-year-old woman driving the Charger were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in the Mustang, a 34-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers say.
The drivers of both semitrucks were not injured and stayed at the scene.
Drivers are urged to be cautious and remain alert on highway interchanges, especially in areas with merging traffic and lane changes.
