1 dead, 1 critically injured in Charlotte County crash Saturday night

One person is dead and one is in the hospital with critical injuries after a crash in Charlotte County on Saturday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the scene of a crash on Marion Avenue around 10:22 p.m.

FHP said a motorcycle was traveling west on the road and was directly behind an e-bike traveling in the same direction.

The motorcycle then attempted to pass the e-bike and crashed into it in the process, FHP said.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in a ditch, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the e-bike sustained critical injuries from the crash and was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center, FHP said.

FHP said the crash is still under investigation.
