A 43-year-old Deltona man was killed Monday night when his Tesla, which was stopped on Interstate 4 in Seminole County, was struck from behind by a semitrailer, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The fatal crash happened around 9:25 p.m. on I-4 east near Lake Mary Boulevard.
The FHP said a 2020 Tesla Model 3 was stopped in the center lane of I-4 east when it was rear-ended despite the driver of a semi trying to avoid the car.
The semi hit a guardrail and overturned, and the Tesla was pushed off the road and struck the side of another big rig, troopers said.
The Deltona man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an FHP crash report.
The semi drivers were not injured and remained at the scene.
All three crash victims were wearing seat belts, the crash report stated.
All eastbound lanes of I-4 were closed in the area, but they were later reopened.
The FHP did not say why the Tesla was stopped in the middle of I-4. An investigation is ongoing.
