A driver crashed into a wall outside Mr. Waves Island Bar on Fort Myers Beach, nearly hitting a man in a golf cart, before being arrested for driving under the influence and property damage.
The incident occurred on San Carlos Blvd Sunday night., where a black Ford Explorer was waiting at a new traffic light.
Daniel Clarkston, who works at the bar, said, “One of my bartenders told me to look at that time, and the camera angle.”
After waiting at the light, the driver ran over the concrete wall and drove away. Clarkston explained the wall is meant to prevent cars from crashing into the building when traffic is light.
Before the crash, deputies reported the driver nearly hit a man on a golf cart on the sidewalk. Chris Lingenfelter, who called 911, said, “Before he possibly killed someone or ran someone over, I figured I’d call 911 and report it.”
Lingenfelter noted that a Lee County deputy responded within a minute, saying, “They were they were really quick.”
Deputies identified the driver as SS, who had bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol, and had slurred speech. His passenger confirmed they were coming from a bar.
After a sobriety test, deputies arrested S for driving under the influence and property damage.
