Man killed, another injured in shooting on Jacksonville’s Northside

One man is dead and another is in critical condition following a late-night shooting Friday on Jacksonville’s Northside, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Just after 10 p.m., JSO responded to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of West 23rd Street. When they arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

JSO said both victims were transported to a nearby hospital where one of the men later died from his injuries. The second victim remains in critical but stable condition.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Unit, and representatives from the State Attorney’s Office are investigating. Authorities said two individuals have been detained and taken to the Police Memorial Building for questioning.

At this time, police said they are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the relationships between those involved. The case remains under investigation and has not yet been officially classified.

The Sheriff’s Office said it believes the incident is isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at (904) 630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to First Coast Crime Stoppers at (866) 845-TIPS.
