Hazmat situation prompts evacuations in Tampa neighborhood

Hazmat situation prompts evacuations in Tampa neighborhood

Tampa Fire Rescue crews are responding to a hazardous materials incident in a neighborhood.

TFR said the situation has prompted homes to be evacuated along South Covina Circle, which is located south of Busch Boulevard and east of North 40th Street.

The incident was originally reported as a structure fire due to a large amount of smoke. TFR’s hazmat team and the Tampa Police Department’s bomb squad were called out to the home.

“Out of an abundance of caution, nearby homes have been temporarily evacuated while crews work to secure the area,” a TFR news release said.
