Man stabbed bother in Tamarac in fourth incident of violence against him: Prosecutors

A man accused of stabbing his brother in Tamarac was arrested on Monday, deputies said.

JR, 35, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and violent injunction protection domestic violence.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies received reports of a stabbing on Monday that happened near the 8000 block of Northwest 75th Avenue.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been stabbed several times, and he was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately known.

Deputies said the victim and R knew each other. R was taken into custody.

Prosecutors at a bond court hearing on Tuesday said “this is now, since 2022, the fourth time Mr. R has appeared before a first appearance judge with allegations of felony-level violence against his brother.”

“He was arrested earlier this year for aggravated battery and battery. Those charges were dropped. He was arrested last year for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was arrested in [2022] for felony battery causing great bodily harm. Those were dropped as well. And now, he stands before the court accused of attacking his brother with a knife, causing multiple injuries, lacerations from cuts with a knife,” the prosecutor said.

He listed other charges R has faced in the past, but added, “frankly, it’s this issue with his brother. My concern is, your honor, one day he’s going to be here with, frankly, a murder charge or attempted murder charge against his brother.”

In response, R’s representation said the incident happened in Tamarac where the suspect lives with his parents. The victim, meanwhile does not live there, but showed up before the crime.

“Mr. R was also injured as a result of this incident. He has several injuries throughout his body,” R’s attorney said.

R’s bond was set at $50,000 and he was granted a medical screening. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim, wear a GPS monitor and was prohibited from having access to weapons or ammunition.
