5-year-old boy critically injured after being struck by truck in Escambia County

A 5-year-old Pensacola boy is in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck in Escambia County on Tuesday night.

Troopers say the incident occurred on State Road 296 near Valle Escondido Drive around 8:56 p.m. when the child was standing in the right lane, and the eastbound truck collided with the child.

The driver, a 63-year-old Pensacola man, was not injured, and no charges are pending against him, according to FHP.

Troopers say the child was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
