A high school senior was killed while walking to her bus stop before school, according to the Ocala Police Department.
It happened early Monday morning in the 1900 block of Old Blitchton Rd, according to investigators.
Police said the girl was 18 years old and was struck by a car while walking to a bus stop. Police have not said whether or not the driver involved stayed at the scene.
The high school senior went to Forest High School.
“We are heartbroken by this devastating loss,” school officials said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family, friends, and the entire Forest High community during this difficult time.”
Crisis counselors will be on campus on Monday to support students and staff.
This is a developing story.
