A Hernando County man is dead after a driver swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting his car nearly head-on, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say this happened just after 6 a.m. Monday, a 24-year-old Davenport man was going northbound on U.S. 98 in Pasco County. Meanwhile, two Spring Hill men, ages 47 and 26, were driving in separate cars going southbound.

FHP says the Davenport man swerved into the southbound lane and collided almost head-on with the 47-year-old’s Dodge Caliber.

The 26-year-old, who was driving behind the Caliber, was reportedly unable to stop and crashed into it.

FHP says the 47-year-old died at the scene due to his injuries. The 24-year-old Davenport man was seriously hurt, while the 26-year-old was not hurt.
