Golf cart charger catches fire in home in Venice

A golf cart charger is being blamed for a house fire in Venice.

Venice Fire Rescue and Sarasota Fire Department units were called Oct. 25 to a fire in a house in the 100 block of Medici Terrace.

When firefighters arrived, they found a single-family home with heavy flames coming from the garage area.

The homeowners stated they had plugged in their golf cart to charge; 10 minutes later, they smelled something burning in the garage and found the golf cart in flames.

The fire was determined to be accidental, with point of origin in the vicinity of the charging golf cart. No injuries were reported.
