 A bicyclist was killed in a collision with a train Monday afternoon, a spokesperson for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.

The collision happened just after 3:30 p.m. on the CSX tracks south of U.S. 92, at the intersection of Eastside Drive in Lakeland.

The area was blocked off with crime scene tape and multiple law enforcement vehicles were stationed by the tracks.

Officials said the bicyclist was an “adult male” but did not provide his name or age.

It’s unclear what led up to the collision. The incident remained under investigation Monday afternoon.
