Ocala man killed by train after getting stuck on train tracks

A 72-year-old man from Ocala was killed after his SUV was hit by a train Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened along State Road 326 as the man was driving west.

Investigators say the SUV turned north and got stuck on the train tracks as a southbound train approached the railroad crossing.

As a result, FHP says the train collided with the left front side of the SUV. The 72-year-old Ocala man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say the train’s conductor and a passenger on board were not injured.

The crash is under investigation.
