BCSO responds to officer-involved shooting

BCSO responds to officer-involved shooting

Captain Jason Daffin, with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, told us that a deputy responded to a 911 call shortly after 6 p.m. to a residence in Southport.

Captain Daffin said a family member made the call due to an armed disturbance at the residence. The involved individual was a male and had a knife, but the Captain said the motive was still unknown.

Once the deputy responded, shots were fired outside the residence, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting

Life-saving measures were performed on the male, and he was then transported to a local hospital. We are told the deputy is okay and was placed on administrative leave.

Captain Daffin said this was an isolated incident, no one else was injured, and there’s no threat to the public at this time

“So the next steps are we have got the scene secure, like I said, FDLE is taking over the investigation, so they are conducting interviews and witnesses who were assisting in anything they request, but there are witnesses to interview and that kind of stuff,” said Daffin.

FDLE was on scene and took over the investigation.
