A 76-year-old Ocala man was killed and a 45-year-old Ocala man was injured Tuesday night in a hit-and-run crash in Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The fatal wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. on SW 27 Circle, just north of SW 137 Loop.
The FHP said an SUV, possibly a gray or silver Jeep Cherokee, was southbound on SW 27 Circle when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and struck the men, who were performing maintenance on a disabled dump truck in the grass shoulder of the roadway.
The men were taken to the hospital, where the 76-year-old was pronounced dead, according to an FHP crash report.
The other victim suffered serious injuries, troopers said.
The FHP said the SUV driver initially pulled over but then fled the scene.
Troopers said the SUV likely has damage to it right front and grille.
Anyone with information about the SUV or the driver is asked to contact Corporal Justin Bard at 352-512-6643 or CrimeStoppers to provide information.
