1 airlifted to burn unit after townhome fire in Fort Myers

One person has been airlifted to a burn center after a fire broke out at a townhome in Fort Myers on Wednesday morning.

According to the Fort Myers Fire Department, crews responded to a fire at a two-story duplex-style townhome on Colonial Preserve Loop at around 8:24 a.m.

FMFD said upon arrival, a male patient with severe burns was treated on the scene and was flown out to a burn center afterwards.

Crews were able to get inside the residence and extinguish any fire that had not been extinguished by the fire sprinkler system inside the structure, FMFD said.

Crews were also able to rescue a dog that was on the second floor of the residence, FMFD said.

The fire is currently under investigation.

Heavy traffic is reported on SR-82 from Buckingham Road to Lee Boulevard due to the scene.
