A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested for allegedly battering a pregnant woman during a domestic violence incident, officials said.
Deputy RS, 31, was arrested Tuesday in North Lauderdale on charges including aggravated battery on a victim that the offender knew or should have known was pregnant and criminal mischief, BSO officials said.
According to the sheriff’s office, S and the pregnant victim had been involved in a verbal and physical altercation over S’ infidelity.
During the argument, S physically caused the woman to fall down a staircase and injure her back, officials said.
S, who has worked for the department since July of 2018, was booked into jail and was placed on administrative investigative leave without pay.
Detectives are also investigating a previous incident where S broke the woman’s phone, along with witness allegations of previous domestic violence incidents, officials said.
“There is zero tolerance for domestic violence, and victims need to know that no one has the right to harm them,” Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony said in a statement Wednesday. “I want those suffering from domestic violence to know that help is available, and victims do not have to suffer in silence. If you are in immediate danger, please call 911 for help.”
