A student in Brevard County was arrested after attacking a teacher and then attempting to take a gun away from a school resource deputy, according to officials.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey detailed the Tuesday incident, which happened at Gardendale Separate Day School on Merritt Island, in a social media video.
According to Ivey, the 15-year-old boy attacked the teacher, and a school resource deputy intervened and took him into custody. It’s not known if the teacher suffered any injuries.
The teen then attempted to take the deputy’s gun, according to the sheriff.
Ivey said it wasn’t the first time the teen attacked a teacher and that he has done so multiple times in another county.
“Our teachers don’t deserve to have someone attacking them, trying to hurt them. They’re there to educate our children,” he said.
The teen faces multiple charges, including criminal mischief, battery on a teacher and battery on a law enforcement officer.
News 6 is not naming the teen due to his age.
